Algebra 2H pd 1
Too many students were tardy today--Students continually tardy will have to serve detention after school or receive referrals to the counselor or dean.
We went over the method of solving quadratic equations called completing the square. This method is useful when quadratic equations can not be factored.

Starting on Wednesday, we will be meeting in room 424-next door to the room we're in right now.
After going over the hw on square root equations, we started the unit on factoring-we went over using the GCF and factoring trinomials.
HW page 295 # 4-18 all
EC problem.....Factor this trinomial: 8x^2 - 27 x - 20.

Pd 2 will be meeting in Room 424 starting on Wednesday...
Today, we learned the formulas for finding the sum of the interior and exterior angles of convex polygons.
Interior Angle Sum: (n - 2) x 180
Exterior Angle Sum = 360
HW page 104 # 1-11 all
EC problem....Five of the six interior angles of a convex hexagon are 160, 92, 120, 81, and 156. Find the measure of the sixth angle of this polygon.

We learned how to solve quadratic equations in the form x^2 = a by taking the square root of both sides of the equation. For equations, all square roots are +/-.

After going over the quiz and hw on graphing parabolas, we began lesson 5.2. This is on solving quadratic equations in the form x^2 = a. We also reviewed the Pythagorean Theorem.

We went over Lesson 3.3 part Two, which involved proofs for parallel lines.
We also went over the proof for the sum of the angles of any triangle = 180ยบ.

We went over Lesson 3.3 part one---identifying which lines, if any, are parallel when given information about certain angles.

Today was a big day for theorems + a postulate. We went over the fact that when 2 parallel lines are cut by a transversal, corresponding and alternate interior angles are congruent and same-side interior angles are supplementary. Also, if a transversal is perpendicular to one parallel line, it is perpendicular to the other parallel line as well.
HW Worksheet- Do all problems on both sides of the worksheet.
EC---Draw two parallel lines and cut them with transversal t. Label the eight angles formed and find their measurement. Name the four pairs of corresponding angles.

We started the unit on Linear Programming today. We went over the terms feasibility region, constraints, corner points (vertices of the polygon), and objective function (profit expression). The maximum and minimum values of the feasible regions can only occur at one of the corner points.

We started Chapter Three today. It is on Parallel Lines and Planes. Today, we learned about skew lines (page 73), transversals, alternate interior, same-side interior, corresponding and alternate exterior angles formed when a transversal intersects two lines.

About half of the class did NOT do well on the last quiz!!!! I'll be handing out the quiz papers tomorrow.
Today, we started the unit on graphing inequalities. We used the graphing calculators for some of the problems, but you are required to know how to graph the inequalities by hand.

Today, we learned another method for solving system of equations-it is called Cramer's Rule, named after a Swiss mathematician called Cramer. It involves the use of determinants, a new concept for algebra two.

We went over the more difficult word problems involving vertical angles, complementary, and supplementary angles.

EC problem.....The supplement of an angle is seven times as large as the complement of an angle. Find the measure of the angle, the complement, and the supplement.

After going over hw problems, we learned the elimination method for solving systems of equations. This method gets rid of one or both variables by multiplication with addition.
