Algebra 2H pds 1,2
Today, we started the unit on special factoring. The first part of this section involves factoring Perfect Square Trinomials. The square roots of the first and last terms doubled must equal the middle term of the trinomial.
HW page 313 # 1-27 odds.
EC problems...page 307 # 54 and # 64.
Also, an extra credit puzzle was given out-due before class starts on Monday..

Geometry H pds 3,5,6
Today, we finished learned about proofs with overlapping triangles. We also reviewed problems on the isosceles triangle.
HW Finish the worksheet we started in class. Also, work on your Polygon Pictures-they are due Wednesday December 3rd.

EC problem....Find at least 25 different words from the word "Thanksgiving". You might be surprised to find how many new words can be made from a word that doesn't contain the letter "e".

Next, we started the unit on Factoring. Today, we covered factoring that uses the GCF or grouping.

Geometry H pds 3,5,6
After reviewing Friday's quiz, we learned the HL Theorem (hypotenuse,leg) for proving that two triangles are congruent. We went over problems from the textbook as well as completing a worksheet for class notes.
HW pages 237-238 # 2,4,6,8, and 11.
EC problem...#14.

Today was the quiz on polynomials and linear programming (Sorry that the problem took so long to do!)
No HW this weekend...EC puzzle was given out...If you didn't receive one, you can get it on Monday.

EC question....Explain how the technique of linear programming might be useful to a company manufacturing different items.

After going over the multi-angle problems and reviewing isosceles triangles, everyone took a quiz on the Isosceles Triangles lesson.
EC puzzle was given out after the quiz.
No other hw.

EC problem...On the Internet find examples of isosceles triangles used in real life.
Bring them in!

Tomorrow is the quiz on graphing systems of inequalities, linear programming, and monomials/polynomials. Go over all problems on the practice test to be prepared for this quiz.
EC problem...(x-3)^4 = ? (This means (x-3) to the fourth power.)

We went over problems involving isosceles triangles.
HW Do the worksheet on Finding all of the missing angles in the picture. Be careful-one wrong answer can cause an avalanche of other wrong answers!
EC problem....The vertex angle of an isosceles triangle = 2x-8. Each base angle = x+2. Find the value of x and the measure of each angle.

After going over problems involving the multiplication of polynomials (square and foil methods), students received the Practice Test. The next quiz will be on Friday. It will be very similar to the Practice Test.
HW Complete the Practice Test for tomorrow.

EC question...Find the product of (3x-4)(2x+7)(9x-10).

Today, we went over the proof for the theorem that the base angles of an isosceles triangle are always congruent. The converse statement is also true.
So, if the base angles of a triangle are congruent, then the 2 sides next to those angles are congruent.
HW Worksheet--Do Side 4.5 for HW.

EC problem....Draw isosceles triangle ABC with angle A= angle B. Draw in the angle bisector of the vertex angle (C).
Prove that side AC is congruent to side BC. Use a two column proof.
If done correctly, I will reward 5 extra credit points.

Our next quiz is scheduled for Friday. It will include graphing inequalities, linear programming, and Sections 5.1-5.3.
Today, we covered Sums and Differences of Polynomials. We also went over the terms coefficient, degree, monomial, binomial, and trinomial.
HW pages 286-287 # 13,17,21,25,29,33,37,41,45,49,53, and 57.

After going over the review sheet of Chapters 1-3, we learned how to construct an equilateral and isosceles triangle. We also learned how to identify the parts of an isosceles triangle (legs, base, vertex angle , and base angles).
HW page 233 # 41-46 all
EC Construct an isosceles triangle and measure the base angles with a protractor. What do you notice?

After reviewing yesterday's lesson on exponents and expressions containing exponents, we learned how to write very large and very small numbers in scientific notation. We also need to know how to write numbers in scientific notation back to the expanded form. At the end of class, we played the Memory Game.
HW pages 278-279 # 54,58,73,79,83,87,91,95,99, and 118.
EC problem...page 280 # 132 (easy question!)

Today was the test on proofs involving Congruent Triangles. There were also some short answer questions.
No hw this weekend!
EC question...Are equilateral triangles always congruent? Why or why not? Give an example for your answer.

After reviewing the problem on Linear Programming, we started Chapter Five. It is titled "Exponents and Polynomials". Today, we learned the exponents part. We reviewed all of the rules and properties for exponents in algebraic expressions.

Today, we reviewed the steps for writing proofs. We are having a quiz on Congruent Triangles and Proofs tomorrow.

We are continuing our quest to learn how to write 2-column proofs for congruent triangles. We went over several 5 step proofs in class today.
HW Worksheet- Do BOTH sides #1-11 on the front and # 1-3 on the back.

EC question....Why do you think learning 2 column proofs is important for geometry and life? Answer in at least 3 sentences. If you don't think it is important, also answer in at least 3 sentences.

Today, we learned that triangles can be congruent by ASA and AAS, as well as SSS and SAS.

EC problem.... Explain the basic difference between ASA and AAS. Draw diagrams of triangles to show the difference as well.

Today was the long quiz on Systems of Equations.
No hw....
EC problem...Ms Jones invests $12,000 in two accounts, one of which pays 12% per year, and the other pays 15% per year. If the interest earned after one year is $1,650, how much money is invested in each account?

Today, we saw the many different projects of Optical Art.
We also learned that there are shortcuts for finding that triangles are congruent. One of them is SSS and the other is SAS. Those are the ones we went over today.
HW Worksheet # 1-15 all

EC Show by drawing two triangles and marking them with arcs and tick marks the difference between SAS and SSA. Label one triangles ABC and the other DEF.

Tomorrow is the BIG QUIZ on systems of Equations. In addition to the problems on the practice test, you should also know how to solve the Investment Problems. Those are the ones with investing a certain amount of money at two different rates of interest.

EC problem....Sketch 2 congruent triangles. Label one of them triangle HIP and the other triangle CAT. Name the 6 congruent parts.

We started Chapter 4 today. This chapter is about Congruent Figures. Today, we learned how to correctly write the corresponding parts of congruent figures. Congruent figures are figures that have the same size and shape.
