Week of October 26th

Algebra 2H pds 1,2
After finishing up the hw questions on exponents, we started lesson 5.2 on polynomial sums and differences. Many examples were done during class.
HW page 286 # 1,5,9,13,17,23,27,35,41,47, and 49.

Geometry H pds 3,5
We learned that parallel lines have the same slope, while perpendicular lines have slopes that are opposite reciprocals of each other.
HW Finish the problems on today's worksheet.
EC Write a paragraph about the assembly you will see tomorrow. Was it inspirational? Why or why not? (pd 3 only)
pd 5 Write the equation of a line parallel to 2x-3y = -6 which contains the point (4,-2).

Today was the quiz on graphing sine and cosine functions. NO hw tonight. You will have a similar worksheet on this material tomorrow.

We spent more time going over the exponent problems, and then learned how to solve scientific notation problems.

We continued going over point-slope and slope-intercept forms.
HW Worksheet # 2,6,10,14,18,22,26,30,34,38,42, and 46.
EC find the equation in slope-intercept form of the line containing (-3,5) and
(4,8).

Trig pd 4
We went over how to write equations of graphs, when given the graph.

We started Chapter 5 today with a review of exponents and their rules.

We went over the three forms for graphing lines-point-slope, standard and slope-intercept forms. Examples were done during class.

We went over the problems for graphing sine and cosine functions that involve vertical translation with phase shift, amplitude, and period.

Algebra 2H pds 1,2
Today was the quiz on linear programming, rate and mixture problems, and graphing inequalities. After the quiz, an extra credit puzzle was given out. I will count it as 5 EC points if done correctly!

Geometry H pds 3,5
Today was the District Quarterly Test on the work we've learned for the past 2 months. Results should come back in about two weeks.
The puzzle hw paper from last Friday will be collected tomorrow. You will also receive the quiz from Friday's class.
EC Question--What did you think of the LAUSD District Quarterly Test? Did you understand the constructed response problem? Why or why not? Answer all of the above questions for the ec point!

Today, we learned about Linear Programming, a method of figuring out how to maximize profit in producing two different items. We went over two examples in class.
HW-Do the puzzle worksheet on graphing inequalities.

Geometry H pds 3,4
Today, we learned by Inductive Reasoning that the sum of the exterior angles of ANY polygon is 360º.
HW Finish the worksheet on the Interior and Exterior Angles of a Polygon.

The district Quarterly Test will be on Monday. Do NOT be absent for this important test!
EC problem---If each interior angle of a regular polygon = 172º, how many sides does the polygon have? Show how you got your answer.

We are learning how to graph sine and cosine functions when given the amplitude and period (cycle). The five critical points must be shown on each graph.

We went over questions from the hw on mixture and rate word problems. Then, we began the lesson on Graphing Systems of Inequalities.

Geometry H pds 3,5
Today, we learned the formula for finding the sum of the interior angles of any polygon. The formula is: 180(n-2), where n = the number of sides of the polygon.
HW Worksheet-Puzzle...Do all problems, and show the work!
EC problem...The angles of a pentagon are 150º,120º,80º,140º,50º. Extend each side, and find the measure of each exterior angle. what is their sum? If done correctly, I'll give 4 ec points!

Trig pd 4
I went over quiz questions, hw questions, and then attempted to explain the cycle (period) of the sine and cosine graphs. The formula is 2 pi/b where y = a sin bx.
HW page 294 # 1,2, and 17.

We learned how to solve mixture and D=RT word problems today.

Geometry H pds 3,5
WE learned that the sum of the measures of the angles of a triangle=180º, and that the exterior angle of a triangle = the sum of the 2 remote interior angles.
HW Worksheet # 1-20 all

EC problem -One angle of a triangle is 2x+15, another angle is 4x-20, and a third angle is 4x+35. Find the measure of each angle. What kind of triangle is it?

Trig pd 4
We started the graphing unit today. We went over the basic shape of the sine and cosine graphs. We also went over the term amplitude.
HW pages 294-295 #27,39,40, and 52.

EC problem-Graph y= 3 sinx from -2pi to 2 pi. What do you notice?

All classes had quizzes today.
EC puzzles were given out in Geometry and Algebra 2. They are due on Monday before class starts.
In addition, geometry classes received the new project on Op Art today. These projects are due next Friday, October 23rd.

Trig ec question---Explain, in your own words, how to find the csc (-327º). Also, explain how to find the angle in Q4 if sec(theta) = 2.3456.

We went over the converses of lesson 3.1. This means if corresponding or alternate interior angles are congruent,then the lines are parallel. Also, if the same-side interior angles are supplementary, then the lines are parallel.

Today was the quiz on the distance formula and the angles formed by parallel lines.
HW puzzle was given out after the quiz. It will be collected on Monday.

Trig/Pre Calc pd 4
We went over how to find the trig values of angles on the calculator. We used both degree and radian mode. We also used the inverse key for secant, cotangent, and cosecant.
In addition, we learned how to find the angle when given its value. For examples, if sin of theta is -1/2 and theta is in quadrant 4, the angle is 330º.
HW page 285 # 79,81,83,85 and # 92,93,95, and 96.

We used the white boards to review for MOnday's test. Topics on the test include:
Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities, Graphing lines using x and y intercepts, as well as the y= mx + b form (slope-intercept form), Writing equations of lines that are parallel or perpendicular to another line, Using the slope formula, and Using point-slope form to write equations.
EC problem....A line has the equation 5x -3y = 15. Find an equation of a line parallel to this line containing the point (7, -4). Then find an equation of the line perpendicular to this line.

We admired the Daisy Designs, and then took a quiz on complementary and supplementary angles, as well as the Angle Addition Postulate.
