Algebra 2H pds 1,2
We had the quiz on permutations and combinations, as well as the counting principle.
No hw over the long weekend.
EC Problem- A bag contains 4 red, 6 white, and 9 blue marbles. How many ways can 5 marbles be selected so that 2 are red, 2 are white, and 1 is blue?

After admiring the Solids projects, we finished the lesson on Spheres. We went over problems involving a plane intersecting a sphere and cutting out a circle for the intersection.
HW Same worksheet as last night # 10-14 all.

EC problem..Find the area of the circle formed when a plane passes 7 cm from the center of a sphere with radius 8 cm.

Math Analysis pd 4
We learned how to find the inverse of a 3x3 matrix. There are actually 4 steps including finding the determinant of the original matrix. All steps should be in your notes.

We learned about Combination problems-these are the ones in which the order of the elements chosen do NOT matter. The formula is: C(n,r)= n!/((n-r)!r!).

Also, there will be a short quiz tomorrow on the Counting Principle, Linear Permutations, Circular Permutations, and Combinations.

After going over the hw on Cones, we learned the formulas for the area and volume of a sphere. Spheres do NOT have Lateral Area.

We learned how to find the inverse of a 2x2 matrix. You can use 2 variable equations to solve for each number, or you can learn the formula, which is:
1/determinant times (d -b)
(-c a).
HW Worksheet 3 7,8, 12-15 all, 29, and 33. Check #15,29, and 33.
EC problem #34-Check your answer as shown during class.

We learned about circular permutations-The formula is (n-1)!. Divide by 2 if the objects are reflective, like charms on a bracelet or keys.

Remember the Solids Project is due on Thursday.
We solved problems involving the LA, TA, and Volume of a Cone.

Math Analysis pd 4
We learned two methods of finding determinants of a 3x3 matrix. We also reviewed the easy formula for finding the determinant of a 2x2 matrix.
HW Worksheet on Determinants #2,6,10,14,18,22. Solve #14 by minors, #18 by the diagonal method, and #22 by either method.
Also, finish the even numbered problems from Monday's worksheet on Operations of Matrices.
EC problem #24 on today's hw worksheet (any method).

Although students were absent due to the CST testing, we went over the hw paper on permutations. All problems through # 31 and #33 were done during class.
No hw due to the testing.
EC problem...How many ways can 9 members of a family be seated in a theatre if the mother is seated on the aisle?

The new projects on Solids was given out today. All solids are due next Thursday, May27th. We also went over the formulas for LA, TA, and Volume of Pyramids.
HW Finish the worksheet # 9,10.

EC problem- Find the LA,TA, and Volume of a regular triangular pyramid with base edges of 12 cm and height of pyramid = 8 cm.

Math Analysis pd 4
We went over the hw problems on Operations with Matrices, and then began the lesson on finding the determinant of a Square Matrix. We will continue with this lesson on Tuesday.
HW # 40-56 evens on the hw worksheet from Thursday's lesson.
EC Find the signed minors of the first row of the following matrix: [3,2, -2
4,1,-4
1,-4,8]
Then work out the calculations to find the determinant of this matrix.

We started learning about the parts of a pyramid. You must understand the meaning of height, slant height, and lateral edge, as well as base edge.
HW -worksheet # 1-4 all-
EC problem...Draw a regular square pyramid. If the slant height = 13 cm and base edge = 10 cm, find the height of the pyramid and the lateral edge.

We started the unit on matrices today. We learned about dimensions, addition, multiplication with a scalar, and multiplication of 2 matrices.

CST Week-May 17th-21

To All of My Classes,

I hope you will all strive to achieve proficient or advanced on the Math CST. You will greatly increase your chances for this achievement if you review and understand ALL of the CST released questions. I have gone over most or all of them during class throughout the past week.

Algebra 2H pds 1,2
After the short quiz on CST review problems, we finished our review of released test questions for the CST.
All problems are to be completed by Monday.
EC problem...A state wants to create new license plates. It is to consist of 4 different letters (not I or O) followed by 2 numbers (0-9)-no repeats. How many different license plates are possible?

Geometry H pds 3,5
We are almost finished reviewing ALL of the released questions for the CST Geometry Test. If you go through these problems with understanding, then you should get ADVANCED or proficient on the geometry CST.
Finish #40-48 for Monday. I will check for completeness of all review sheets.
EC problem-If each point of a triangle is moved 2 units to the right and 3 units down, what will the new coordinates be?
Points of the triangle are A(3,-2), B(-1,5) and C(4,2).

Math Analysis- pd 4
We thoroughly went over the Practice Quiz. The real quiz will be on Monday. If you know everything on the practice quiz, then you should get 100% on the real quiz!
HW Study and do the CST practice problems(Answers were given out in today's class.).
EC problem....What is the current population in North Dakota? Cite your reference source. Also, find K if 200 bacteria grow to 2000 bacteria in 12 hours.

We are working on the mini test for the CST review.
Finish all problems from theCST review sheets for tomorrow.
There will be a short quiz tomorrow-topics include:logs, probability, infinite geometric series, and f(g(x)).

We have finished going over the Mini Test and other packet of geometry review for the CST. Tomorrow, I will go over the release questions from 2008.
No hw.
EC problem...A square is inscribed in a circle.
What is the ratio of the area of the circle to the area of the square?

We are working on a Practice Test for the Test on Interest, Growth, and Decay.
HW Finish the practice test. Try the CST review questions (Page 1) on algebra.

EC problem....Find K if the half-life of an element is 14.2 hours. Start with 100 grams. How much will remain after 20 hours?

After the short quiz on complex numbers, quadratic formula, and vertex of a parabola, we reviewed more CST problems. These were mostly on lagartihms and exponential equations. We also learned about probability.

We are reviewing for the CST this whole week. Today, we went over all of the problems in the first packet.

Week of May 10th

Algebra 2H pds 1,2

Tomorrow, there will a SHORT quiz on the quadratic formula, complex numbers, and parabola (finding the vertex). We covered CST review questions during class.

EC problem- Find the equation of the asymptotes for the hyperbola (y/4)^2 -(x/3)^2=1.

Geometry H pds 3,5
We reviewed the hw on cylinders as well as CST review problems #1-9.
HW CST review problems # 10-25 all. Take a guess if you're not sure of the answer.
EC problem-A cylinder has a volume of 432pi square meters. If its height is 3 meters, find the radius and LA of the cylinder.

Math Analysis- pd 4
We went over many CST review problems from both algebra one and two.
HW Finish the worksheet gien out at the end of today's class.
HOpefully, there will be a quiz on Exponential Functions involving growth, decay, and compound/continuous interest problems.
EC-Compare the amount of money you will earn on a $200 investment compounded quarterly at 5% for 15 years vs the same investment compounded continuously for the same rate and time.

We went over the LA, TA, and Volume of trapezoidal and hexagonal prisms. We also reviewed the cylinder problems.

CST review- Do all problems on the first page (front side only).
EC problem..Find LA,TA, and Volume of a hexagonal prism (regular) with sides of 10cm and height 3 cm.

After going over the hw problems on the binomial expansion, we had a short quiz on this topic.

After going over the problems on LA, TA, and Volume of prisms, we learned the formulas for LA, TA and Volume of Cylinders, which are similar to prisms.
HW Worksheet # 1-8 all
EC problem-A manufacturer needs to decide which container to use for packaging a product. One container (cylinder) is twice as wide as another, but only half as tall. Which container holds more, or do they hold the same amount? (Hint- Choose numbers like 4 and 8 for radius and height and compare the volumes of the two containers.)

Math Analysis pd 4
We have now gone over problems on Growth and Decay, as well as Compound and Continuous Interest. All of you are responsible for knowing how to solve any problems solved during class time.
NO written hw tonight due to the AP Exam tomorrow. However, you should be reviewing the problems worked out during the past week. There will be a quiz next week.

EC problem...Radium-226 decomposes radioactively. Its half-life is 1800 years. Find the constant K for the decay formula (Y=ne^kt). If you start with 100 grams of Radium-226, how much will be left after 250 years?

We started the unit on Soldis. Today, we learned the formulas for lateral area, total area, and volume of a rectangular prism.
HW worksheet # 7,8
EC question - Draw a triangular prism with the two bases as equilateral triangles. If the side of the equilateral triangle = 8 cm and the height of the prism is 10 cm.,
find the LA, TA, and Volume of this prism. If done correctly, I will count this double!

Math Analysis pd 4
We are finishing up the work on Compound and Continuous Interest. It is required that a scientific calculator be used for these problems.
HW Finish page 20 (worksheet) and textbook page 225-226 #28,29,31, and 35.

We learned Binomial Expansions. One way to expand binomials is by using Pascal's Triangle, and the other way (the mathematical way) is by using binomial coefficients with factorials. 6!= 6x5x4x3x2x1.

Today was the quiz on the Segments of a Circle.

We learned that if you are willing and able to wait 500 years, a $1 investment will become a LOT of money!!!!

Today was the quiz on Geometric Sequences and Series, Infinite Series, and Sigma Notation.

Tomorrow is the quiz on the Segments of a Circle. Students in class today reviewed each type of problem. The quiz has 11 problems. Factoring is necessary for several of the problems. So, review all worksheets we've done for the past week!
EC problem....Factor and solve x^2 -10x + 24 =0
x^2 -10x - 24 = 0.

We went over the growth and decay problems from the worksheets. We barely started the Compound Interest Formula.
