Week of June 14th (LAST WEEK OF THE SEMESTER!!!!)

To All of My Classes:

This will be my last web log post until the fall semester. It has been an enjoyable experience for me to have been your math teacher this school year!
I hope you will do well on your final exam-just know how to do the work on the review sheets, and you'll do fine! The questions on all of the final exams are based on the review sheets.

Algebra 2H pds 1,2
We are reviewing for the final exam. The final is on Wednesday, June 16th. Remember that binders will be graded the day of the final exam.
HW Review Sheet # 15- 33 all.
EC problem - Solve by using the quadratic formula: 3x^2 -5x + 7 =0

Geometry H pds 3,5
We are reviewing for the final exam. The final for pd 3 class is on Thursday,June 17,and the final for pd 5 class is on Friday, June 18th. the last day of review is on Tuesday. Remember that binders with the semester's work are due on the day of the final exam.
HW Finish the problems started during class today. They are on the back of last night's hw paper.
EC problem..Find the TA of a rectangular solid with length 8 cm, width 6 cm, and height 3 cm. Draw a picture of this solid. This is the LAST ec for this semester.

Math Analysis pd 4
After going over the limit problems (which will be on your final test), we started reviewing topics covered much earlier in the semester. This included trig form, standard form, and DeMoivre's Theorem.

Today was the quiz on probability. Afterwards, the review sheet for the Final Exam was given out.

We are reviewing for the Final Exam. After going over the review problems from yesterday's packet, students received the second review paper.
HW Do all problems on the front side for tomorrow.
EC Find the area of a circle with circumference 136 pi. (This is very easy!!!)

Math Analysis pd 4
We finished the second lesson on Limits of a function. Today, we focused on limits from the positive and negative side of a number-sometimes limits do not exist and sometimes they do exist. We also went over a limit example from calculus (difference quotient).
HW pages 760-761 # 44,48,63
EC problem #64.

We are having a quiz on Probability tomorrow. Go over the review problems from today plus any other hw problems we went over in class.

After going over the quiz on Solids, we started review for the Final Exam.
For pd 3, the final is next Thursday,June 17th, and for pd 5, the final is next Friday, June 18th.
HW Finish the review problems you did not finish during class.
EC problem- Make a list of all topics we have covered this semester. Tell what you liked or disliked.

Math Analysis pd 4
Because of the field trip, we learned how to use the graphing calculator to find determinants and inverses of matrices. We also learned how to multiply 2 matrices on the calculator, as well as solve an equation in 3 variables using matrices.
Students who did the work will receive credit tomorrow.
HW Make sure last night's assignment is completed!
EC-Using the law of cosines, find the 3rd side of a triangle with 2 sides = 34 and 42 and the included angle 52ยบ. Use your notes to find the formula!

Today, we learned about using probability in binomial trials. This is used when there are 2 different possible outcomes and the events are independent.

Today was the long awaited test on Solids and Ratios of Similar Solids.
EC problem...A solid metal cylinder with radius 6 cm and height 18 cm is melted down and recast as a solide cone with radius 9 cm. Find the height of the cone. (Hint-Use the volume formulas).

Math Analysis pd 4
We went over two techniques for evaluating limits of functions. One was the dividing out technique (factoring), and the other was the rationalizing technique.
HW pages 760-761 # 5,6,7,9, and 11.

We are still learning about the probability of mutually exclusive and inclusive events.
HW Worksheet # 2-16 evens #22,24,26
EC problem-A committee of 5 people is to be formed from a group of 7 men and 6 women. What is the probability that the committtee will have at least 3 women?

Geometry H pds 3,5
The Test on Solid and Ratios of Similar Solids is tomorrow. To do well, you should know how to solve all problems on the review sheets.
HW Study the problems from the review sheets!!!
EC problem...Find the volume of a sphere with surface area of 144 pi.

Math Analysis pd 4
We learned about limits of functions as x approaches some given number. Examples were given out during class of different types of functions.
HW pages 750-751 #3,4,5,15,19,20,45, and 47.

Algebra 2H pds 1,2
After going over the hw problems on multiplying probabilities, we learned about the probability of mutually exclusive and inclusive events. This is when you add the probabilities together and sometimes subtract the intersection if both events can occur simultaneously.
HW Worksheet # 1-17 odds.
EC problem..A letter is chosen at random from the alphabet. What is the probability that the letter is contained in the word GLASS or in the word SLOWER?

Geometry H pds 3,5
We are reviewing for the quiz on Solids (Tuesday). Today, we reviewed cones, prisms, pyramids, spheres, and cones.
HW Worksheet # 15-18 all and Worksheet #2 1-7 ALL
EC problem...Find the TA and Volume of a right triangular prism with base edges 6,8,10 and height of the prism 12.

Math Analysis pd 4
The quiz on matrices was today. No hw.
EC- Make a list of the topics we have covered this semester and evaluate each topic.

Algebra 2H pds 1,2
We went over the topic of multiplying probabilities. This is used when there is more than one event. Events may be independent or dependent.
HW Worksheet # 1-27 odds.
EC problem- There are 3 quarters, 4 dimes, and 5 nickels in a purse. Suppose 3 coins are to be selected without replacement. Find the probability of selecting a quarter followed by a dime followed by a nickel.

Geometry H pds 3,5
We totally reviewed the lesson on ratios of perimeters, areas, and volumes of similar solids.
HW Practice Test # 1-12 ALL
EC problem- Two similar pyramids have volumes of 81 and 24. If the lateral area of the smaller pyramid = 32, find the LA of the larger pyramid. (Please copy this problem if you do it!)

Math Analysis pd 4
We reviewed all of the matrix topics for tomorrow's quiz. These include addition, multiplication, determinants, inverses, and transposes.
QUIZ is tomorrow!!!!
EC problem...Make up your own 4x3 and 3x2 matrices and multiply them together.

We learned or relearned about probability and odds of different events occurring.

EC problem - What are the odds of tossing two dice and rolling a 12 (snake eyes)?

Geometry H pds 3,5
We learned how to find the ratio of the perimeters, areas, and volumes of similar solids.
HW Worksheet # 1-11 all
EC problem--Two similar cones have radii of 4 cm and 6 cm. The total area of the smaller cone is 36 pi cm^2. Find the total area of the larger cone.

Math Analysis - pd 4
We are having a quiz on matrices this Friday. Today, a review sheet was given out. All questions on the quiz will be similar to these problems.
HW # 1-16 all
EC problem...Write a few sentences about Cramer, the founder of Cramer's rule.

Week of June 1st

Algebra 2H pds 1,2
In pd 1, we started the unit on probability. Probability is the ratio of successful outcomes to total amount of outcomes possible.
HW Worksheet #15,16,21,22,24,25,28,30.
EC problem #26

Geometry H pds 3,5
Due to the field trip to UCLA, we did an activity lesson on the ratio of perimeters, areas, and volumes of similar rectangles and rectangular solids. We will go over this lesson in more depth tomorrow.
EC problem- If the ratio of the areas of two similar figures is 16:121, find the ratio of their perimeters and ratio of their volumes.

Math Analysis- pd 4
We learned how to solve 3-variable equations using determinants (Cramer's Rule).
HW Worksheet # 1,3,5 (Only find the determinant for these) and # 9,11, and 13. Remember that if the determinant is 0, there is no unique (one) solution!
EC problem #17 (One of the answers is a fraction.) Two points if done correctly!
